An ottoman is more than just a place to rest your feet, it can be the perfect balance of form and function, a susbtitute coffee table and a representation of the characteristics of your home. Follow these steps to style your ottoman and give a little extra life to your living room.

1. Layer a throw to in to break up the colour

Having a solid colour dedicated to the space can make your room look drab and drown out the more personal features, to break this up add a throw to your ottoman, laying it down as a base. For added impact, use a unique pattern and match it to the cushions on your sofa.

2. Place a tray in the centre

Using a tray not only helps align the view to the centre of your space but also makes your ottoman more functional. This will allow more styling options and even the ability to use it as a substitute coffee table.

3. Add a personal touch

This is your chance to say a little something about yourself. You've set the stage and now is when we start to bring it all together. Add knick knacks, figurines or books to your tray and give those visiting a bit or a visage into the home they've stepped into.

4. Bring in some life with a floral arrangement
