Learn moreHow to Choose the Perfect Dining Table For Your Space
Our stylist Cindy examines the 3 most important things to consider when choosing a dining table. A dining table is one of the most fundamental pieces of furniture you will have in your home, not only is it a place to sit and eat, but also a place to entertain and make wonderful memories. Size, shape and style are the three important decisions you will need to make to create this functional area. Size Generally, when determining the size of the dining table you require, the rule of thumb is to allow 90-100cm of clearance on each side of the table. This amount of space allows you to pull out a chair from the table and also be able to walk behind when people are seated at the table. RULE OF THUMB: Allow 90-100cm clearance on each side of your table When looking at spacing around the table don’t forget to consider other furniture pieces in the room, such as a buffet or dresser, as then you will need to measure from this point. A practical way to figure it all out is to create an outline of your table by using a measuring tape, or masking tape, or even some books, from there, it will give you a much better idea of what will work best in the space you have in the room. PHOTO: The Bengal Dining Table with Black Enterprise Chairs Shape The most common tables are rectangle as these work best in long narrow spaces. They come in a variety of lengths and widths. Another practical idea is an extension table as this gives you the option to extend your space when entertaining. Square, Round or Oval shapes are best for smaller spaces as they take up less space and are easier to walk around. A square table looks great in a square room and round, or oval tables are best for small rooms as this shape still provides a good surface area to place food and all three shapes bring people closer together, so it is great for conversation and ideal for parties, and card nights. Whether it’s the Contemporary, Hamptons or a Country look you’re going for, we have a dining table to suit every interior design style. For a contemporary style home, you may wish to choose a natural timber top and metal legs for a slim line look, for a Hamptons home you may prefer a white or whitewash and sculptured legs and for something a little more country the refectory leg may just be you. The chair seating width will depend on positioning of the table leg. A bench is also another simple and effective way of adding a few extra bottoms around a table and will tuck seamlessly away under the table, a bench that seats three will take up as much space as two dining chairs making it a great space saver. So, if you love to entertain in a casual buffet style rather than a more formal sit-down meal, a bench maybe the best the right fit for your home helping the room feel open, spacious, and relaxed. PHOTO: The OBC Dining Table with Antoine Chairs and Bench Seat A great way to complete the look is by adding a rug, ensure that it is 60cm wider than the table so that when seated, the chair is still on the rug. RUG RULE: The rug should be approximately 60cm wider than the table

Learn moreSimple Steps to Choosing the Right Rug
Our stylist Cindy has some helpful tips in getting the most out of your room with some floor decor. Not only do rugs bring colour, warmth and personality to your home it can help bring the room together and it can reduce noise and creates a zone to relax in. Most of our rugs are hand crafted in India by experienced craftspeople using traditional methods such as handlooms and tufting with most styles rugs made from wool. It can be kind of overwhelming choosing the right size rug for the home so here are some tips that can help you. Rug sizes 160x230, 200x290, 240x330, 280x380 In a Living Room Ideally the rug should sit halfway under the lounge or at least with the front two legs placed on the rug and should extend approx. 15 to 30cm either side of the lounge. If you have a larger room and can support a bigger rug, by placing all the furniture on the rug is an elegant way to define the space however all pieces of furniture should fit on the rug without feeling cramped. **note not all lounges are the same size so sizing may change Under a Dining Table If adding a rug under a table, make sure it extends at least 50 to 60cm past the table so that the chair does not get caught on the edge of rug as guests slide in their chair. Round rugs generally the same rules apply as for the rectangle rug and will enhance the space of the room and table. Adding to a Bedroom Rugs in the bedroom can add a tranquil feel to the room and if placing a rug under the bed ensure it extends by at least the width of your bedsides to create a path around the bed. Rugs can also add luxury to a carpeted room and can be added to 1/3 of the foot of the bed or the whole complete bed. Queen bed is 153x188cm King bed is 183x203cm Prevent Slippage on all surfaces When rugs slip under your feet on hard flooring, it can be dangerous so Rug stop will keep the rug in place. Features of the rug stop: Prevents the risk of rug movement Protects timber floors Softens sound Lengthens rug life Prevents the risk of dye transfer Additional comfort under foot Material: PVC Don't Forget the Maintenence The rug will come rolled and will take a few days to flatten out. Placing a heavy item on the edges will help speed up the process. The rug may have a slight smell when first opened; however, this will disappear after a few days. As part of proper fabric care, there are many odour removal products available from major retail outlets that can help speed up this process Vacuum RegularlyRegular light vacuuming is recommended to prevent dust and crumbs from cutting the fibers on the rug, avoiding powerful vacuums or rotating power heads as stiff bristles and strong suction can damage the fibres. CleaningSpills should be cleaned immediately. Never rub a spill, instead blot any liquids with a dry absorbent white cloth or white paper towel. Some stains may be cleaned with a wool detergent and lukewarm water.. Do not machine wash rugs. Fading Placing rugs in direct and continuous sunlight will cause them to fade so it is best to rotate your rug regularly, Try to rotate your rug every 6-12 months to ensure even wear.SheddingOften new rugs begin to produce fluff as a result of loose fibers that remain in the rug after the manufacturing process. This is not a fault of the rug, but a standard characteristic of woolen rugs. With regular vacuuming this will reduce over time. Pilling and loose yarnsPilling and loose yarns also known as sprouting can occur due to traffic, moving of furniture, vacuuming or other mechanical agitation. This can be carefully trimmed with scissors.
