Our stylist Cindy has some helpful tips in getting the most out of your room with some floor decor.

Not only do rugs bring colour, warmth and personality to your home it can help bring the room together and it can reduce noise and creates a zone to relax in.

Our rugs are hand crafted in India by experienced craftspeople using traditional methods such as handlooms and tufting with most styles rugs made from wool.

It can be kind of overwhelming choosing the right size rug for the home so here are some tips that can help you.

Rug sizes 160x230, 200x290, 240x330, 280x380

In a Living Room

Ideally the rug should sit halfway under the lounge or at least with the front two legs placed on the rug and should extend approx. 15 to 30cm either side of the lounge. If you have a larger room and can support a bigger rug, by placing all the furniture on the rug is an elegant way to define the space however all pieces of furniture should fit on the rug without feeling cramped.

**note not all lounges are the same size so sizing may change

Under a Dining Table

If adding a rug under a table, make sure it extends at least 50 to 60cm past the table so that the chair does not get caught on the edge of rug as guests slide in their chair.  Round rugs generally the same rules apply as for the rectangle rug and will enhance the space of the room and table.

Adding to a Bedroom

Rugs in the bedroom can add a tranquil feel to the room and if placing a rug under the bed ensure it extends by at least the width of your bedsides to create a path around the bed. Rugs can also add luxury to a carpeted room and can be added to 1/3 of the foot of the bed or the whole complete bed.

Queen bed is 153x188cm

King bed is 183x203cm

Prevent Slippage on all surfaces

When rugs slip under your feet on hard flooring, it can be dangerous so Rug stop will keep the rug in place.

Features of the rug stop:

  • Prevents the risk of rug movement
  • Protects timber floors
  • Softens sound
  • Lengthens rug life
  • Prevents the risk of dye transfer
  • Additional comfort under foot
  • Material: PVC

Don't Forget the Maintenence

The rug will come rolled and will take a few days to flatten out and by placing a heavy item on the edges will speed up the process. The rug may have a slight smell when opening however will disappear after a few days, there are many odour removal products available from major retail outlets which will help speed up the process.

Vacuum Regularly
Regular light vacuuming is recommended to prevent dust and crumbs from cutting the fibers on the rug, avoiding powerful vacuums or rotating power heads as stiff bristles and strong suction can damage the fibres.
Cleaning
Spills should be cleaned immediately. Never rub a spill, instead blot any liquids with a dry absorbent white cloth or white paper towel. Some stains may be cleaned with a wool detergent and lukewarm water.. Do not machine wash rugs.

Fading

Placing rugs in direct and continuous sunlight will cause them to fade so it is best to rotate your rug regularly, Try to rotate your rug every 6-12 months to ensure even wear.
Shedding
Often new rugs begin to produce fluff as a result of loose fibers that remain in the rug after the manufacturing process. This is not a fault of the rug, but a standard characteristic of woolen rugs. With regular vacuuming this will reduce over time.

Pilling and loose yarns
Pilling and loose yarns also known as sprouting can occur due to traffic, moving of furniture, vacuuming or other mechanical agitation. This can be carefully trimmed with scissors.
